About

OUR COMMUNITY

The small community that doesn't feel so small.
Our community has a long history and remains far more vibrant and active than people expect.

Life in a small, provincial community is very different. It means that everyone counts and everyone can make a difference. This is shown clearly in the number of groups and organisations that exist and our excellent facilities.

Sheffield Students

HILLEL HOUSE

Sheffield has one of the UK’s original Hillel Houses, boasting Kosher self-catered apartments, a Kosher kitchen used by J-Soc for Shabbat dinners, as well as a lounge area for a range of J-Soc events.

LIVING HERE

Our shul and community centre sit in the leafy suburbs of Sheffield. Just 10mins from the Peak District countryside or our Botanical Gardens.

Always known for its steel industry, Sheffield is also home to two Universities, with health & wellbeing, digital technology and creative industries all strongly featuring in the local economy.

VISITING OR MOVING HERE

Our community offers a warm welcome to visitors and new members.

Sheffield is a city of half a million people located in South Yorkshire and close to the Peak District National Park. It has good transport links, reasonably priced housing, good schools, two universities and excellent hospitals. Sheffield also has more trees per person than any other city in Europe, estimated at more than two million and 61% of the city is green space.

KOSHER SHOPPING

We have a kosher butcher who visits weekly.
Waitrose carries a good supply of kosher food.

CIVIC SUNDAY

Our community is justly proud of this annual annual event, which brings members together with leaders from the sider Sheffield community.

The key objective is to raise money for our local Childrens Hospital.
In 2024 the collection, together with matched funding from an anonymous donor, amounted to £6,200, our best yet.
